About Catherine Adelaja Dip.Ac, DipCHM, MAcS TCM, B.A

I travelled in Asia and worked in Hong Kong and Japan for 4 years in my early 20‘s. During this period I developed a great interest in Chinese and Japanese cultures : In particular the philosophy, traditional methods of paper making and Tai chi. During this time I was treated with Oriental Medicine and the seeds were planted. Later, on my return to England I went on to study Acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine and Moxibustion at the London Academy of Oriental medicine and qualified in 1997 after 4 years of study.

After the completion of my studies I returned to Asia when I was awarded a Scholarship for 1 year from the British Council for post-graduate studies in Tianjin College of Traditional Chinese medicine, China. Here my studies were clinic based in Tianjin Traditional Medicine Hospital. In the in-patient ward primarily treating patients with strokes and in the out-patients treating both acute and chronic conditions of pain. The experience gained was invaluable. Not only did I gain confidence and knowledge in the subject but I also saw, learnt, and practised the various methods for the treatment of pain and strokes and was able to experience and see the efficacy of Acupuncture treatments.

Following my studies I have worked both in private practice and for the NHS treating a wide range of conditions such as musculoskeletal, gynaecological, respiratory, and gastrointestinal disorders.I have also worked in Drug and Alcohol centres : Kingston CDAT, Kalideoscope and the Blenheim project treating addictions of both prescribed and non prescribed drugs.

I am currently working both in private practice in West Dulwich, Kingston and in New Malden and volunteering at St Mungoes in their well being centre. I am in the process of setting up a Community interest group that its aims and intentions are to offer complementary therapies within the community that can be affordable to everyone.

I am a member of the Acupuncture society that have strict codes of conduct. Members have undertaken to operate within high professional and ethical standards which are reflected in the Societies Code of Ethics, Rules and Regulations, Code of Safe practice, Complaints procedures , CPD and insurance requirement.
